Skunks dig small, 3- to 4-inch cone-shaped holes or patches of upturned earth, and they are known to remove insects systematically from the turf in a section-by-section fashion where they are grubbing for insects while damaging lawns, landscapes and gardens. Skunks also pose physical danger and emit terrible odors on pets and people when they feel threatened.
